ItƵapp hard to stay cool when faced with unfair mischaracterizations of what one believes. But itƵapp Easter, and hope springs eternal so instead of publicly lambasting John IbbitsonƵapp recent column in the Globe and Mail, I’m going to do a public service instead. What follows here is an attempt to distill what it is many women actually believe when we choose pro-life laws.

In 1936, English novelist Evelyn Waugh published a short biography of Edmund Campion, English priest and martyr. When an American edition of the book was published 10 years later, Waugh wrote in the preface, “We are nearer Campion than when I wrote of him.”

Abuse survivors build bridges to reconciliation /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35397-abuse-survivors-build-bridges-to-reconciliation /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35397-abuse-survivors-build-bridges-to-reconciliation

The PopeƵapp prayer intention for March 2023 was that victims of abuse find within the Church herself a concrete response to their pain and suffering. One organization already responding to such pain by building spiritual bridges between victims/survivors of clergy sexual abuse and the general Church community is Awake Milwaukee (Awake).

A joint Lenten series offered by a Presbyterian church and a Catholic parish during the COVID-19 pandemic is the inspiration behind a new book by McGill University professor Karen Petersen Finch that seeks to equip lay people for engagement in ecumenical dialogue at the grassroots level.

Healing the broken breeds new strength /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35354-healing-the-broken-breeds-new-strength /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35354-healing-the-broken-breeds-new-strength

For now we see only a reflection, as in a mirror.

1 Corinthians 13: 12

I had the pleasure recently of attending an international conference for Catholic post-secondary presidents, and I was inspired by the range and reach of the work we do to bring the joy of faith to the community through the critical lens of education.

Making ‘attachment culture’ a headline subject /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35353-making-attachment-culture-a-headline-subject /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35353-making-attachment-culture-a-headline-subject

If itƵapp possible to mourn something you’ve never known, then I’ve been longing for a world in which attachment matters. Why worry about attachment now? ItƵapp not a subject that makes headlines.

Niagara RegionƵapp recent state of emergency for homelessness, mental health and opioid addiction is a wake-up call that must not be ignored, in the Southern Ontario area and across Canada.

The heroic act of just speaking up /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35335-the-heroic-act-of-just-speaking-up /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35335-the-heroic-act-of-just-speaking-up

There are heroes everywhere these days. Today, many of them are heroic just for the simple act of speaking a basic objective truth and refusing to retract, back down or apologize for it. Others go further and back up their conviction with action.

12 steps toward a God of understanding /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35268-12-steps-toward-a-god-of-understanding /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35268-12-steps-toward-a-god-of-understanding

When I first encountered 12 step spirituality in a room of anonymous strangers, I was introduced to “the God of our own understanding.” The concept felt foreign to me, and a little bit dangerous. What would all these people do to God with their own understanding, I worried.

Recently, I noticed a height chart next to the exit door of my local wine shop. This isn’t the first time I’ve shopped there, but itƵapp the first time I’ve notice the 7-foot ruler, conspicuously glued to the door frame.
