It is not a long road that leads us to justice — it is a mighty river that flows to a faraway sea. It flows more quickly at some times than at others. There are also twists and turns and perilous rapids. Roads and rivers are both long. But unlike a road — which we may or may not take — a river is inevitable. Resistance against it is impossible.

Alberta fires should spark climate action /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35554-alberta-fires-should-spark-climate-action /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35554-alberta-fires-should-spark-climate-action

In 1979, the Environment Council of Alberta issued two reports on the viability of solar, wind and biomass energy. At the time those sources were not viable, although the ECA said wind energy would soon be feasible. Merv Leitch, the energy minister of the day, brushed off the reports, saying the government would look silly if it developed renewable energy which undermined the markets for its vast petroleum resources.

Abuse solution that includes the Church /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35512-abuse-solution-that-includes-the-church /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35512-abuse-solution-that-includes-the-church

What happens to children sexually abused by priests as they grow older? Some, tragically, commit suicide. Some fall into alcoholism and drug addiction in an attempt to cope with the enduring pain caused by such profound betrayals of trust. Serial failed relationships, career catastrophes, depression and hopelessness often follow.

The Jews and us /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35484-the-jews-and-us /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35484-the-jews-and-us

As I write this column, the State of Israel and Jews around the world are preparing to celebrate Yom Haatzmaut marking IsraelöÏÓãÊÓƵapp independence. This yearöÏÓãÊÓƵapp celebration will be especially poignant as it is the 75th anniversary of the Jewish state — a country that has flourished and has become an example to the world of perseverance.

How does late-term abortion differ from MAiD for babies? /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35483-how-does-late-term-abortion-differ-from-maid-for-babies /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35483-how-does-late-term-abortion-differ-from-maid-for-babies

A 2022 poll conducted by the Angus-Reid Institute revealed 52 per cent of Canadians think abortion should be available at any time during a pregnancy. In the absence of a legal framework that places term-limits on the procedure, Canada is one of the handful of countries where women can procure elective abortions up to the moment of delivery.

This is an Easter story for this Easter season. It is set in a cemetery, spans several decades past and many more into the future.

Don’t miss out on mud puddle miracles /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35460-don-t-miss-out-on-mud-puddle-miracles /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35460-don-t-miss-out-on-mud-puddle-miracles

I love the first walk out with the kids when the snow melts. Pressing on thin ice till it breaks. Wading into puddles. Dropping snow into running water to see how long it takes to break through. I love the way that spring breaks through the winter, and we feel renewed by fresh air. Mostly, I love how easy it is to taste joy on that first spring walk.

Cultivating the soil of earthly life /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35459-cultivating-the-soil-of-earthly-life /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35459-cultivating-the-soil-of-earthly-life

ChristöÏÓãÊÓƵapp Resurrection is sometimes seen as the moment of his dis-Incarnation. God so loved the world that He sent His only Son so that all who believe in Him may not perish but have eternal life. The Son of God became flesh so that He would be one with us in our earthly trials and tribulations and redeem us from sin.

When Theology of the Body is misunderstood /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35458-when-theology-of-the-body-is-misunderstood /opinion/guest-columnists/item/35458-when-theology-of-the-body-is-misunderstood

Is it possible to abuse the gifts of God? Absolutely. Does it make them any less a gift just because they are open to abuse or we abuse them? No. Thomas Aquinas said that just about anything can be abused, even Gregorian Chant! But what happens when we abuse a gift whose sole purpose is to keep us from abusing GodöÏÓãÊÓƵapp gifts?
