Church mourns loss of 鈥榓 simple priest鈥�

Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte said he became a priest 鈥渂ecause I wanted to work among the poor and the underprivileged, not because I wanted to wear fancy robes.鈥�

MONTREAL -聽He was a cardinal with a common touch, a street-smart Montrealer who used the media effectively, peppered sermons with references to his beloved Montreal Canadiens, returned his Order of Canada on principle and humbly served his community at soup kitchens and blood donor clinics.
