New chapter launched in Catholic-Jewish relations

Toronto Auxiliary Bishop John Boissonneau, right, and Rabbi Baruch Frydman- Kohl will represent Catholics and Jews on the national Canadian Catholic-Jewish Dialogue.

Rabbi Baruch Frydman-Kohl reckons it was the first kosher meal ever served in the 190-year history of OttawaöÏÓãÊÓƵapp Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica, though itöÏÓãÊÓƵapp hard to say for sure. But the first meeting of the national Canadian Catholic-Jewish Dialogue certainly marked a new chapter in Christian-Jewish relations in Canada.

On last morning in Holy Land, Pope reaches out to Muslims, Jews

Pope Francis prays at the Western Wall in Jerusalem May 26. The pope stood for more than a minute and a half with his right hand against the wall, most of the time in silent prayer, before reciting the Our Father. Then he followed custom by leaving a wri tten message inside a crack between two blocks.

JERUSALEM - Pope Francis spent the last morning of his three-day pilgrimage to the Holy Land meeting with Muslims and Jews and calling for closer relations among the three major monotheistic religions as the basis for peace in the region.
