Parishioners of Holy Trinity Parish in Torbay, N.L., are teaming with the Archdiocese of St. John������Ƶapp Archdiocesan Renewal Corporation (ARC) to raise $450,000 to secure ownership of their house of worship. 

Some parishioners refused to attend the final Mass at Newfoundland������Ƶapp Holy Rosary Church, angered by what they see as a “betrayal” over closure of their parish after being led to believe it could remain open.

Catholics in Newfoundland are locked into an unsettling waiting game until the middle of the month, awaiting word on whether bids put in for churches by parish groups will be accepted.

QUEBEC CITY -- The Archdiocese of Quebec announced its intention to reorganize its parishes to focus on local missionary activities. This move comes as human and material resources continue to diminish.

Declining church attendance, priests shortage and rising building costs are common factors that are forcing dioceses across the country to close churches and amalgamate parishes.
