Story of the famous Mount Royal cross goes back 375 years

Actors portraying Montreal co-founders Paul de Chomedey, Sieur de Maisonneuve, and Jeanne Mance were among the brave souls that braved frigid weather on Jan. 6 to commemorate the erecting of a cross 375 years ago on Mount Royal in thanksgiving for saving Ville Marie from flooding.
MONTREAL – ItöÏÓãÊÓƵapp doubtful that Montreal would be celebrating 375 years of history today had flood waters not receded in December 1642.

Toppled Montreal cross exhibit resurrected

MONTREAL – A controversial artwork that a former Montreal mayor ordered destroyed on the eve of the 1976 Olympics because it was disrespectful to the Church has been recast and installed near a historic religious institution in spite of objections from the conventöÏÓãÊÓƵapp superior general.
