VANCOUVER – It was called the Rise Up conference, but it could just as easily have been called the Speak Up.

More than a hundred middle school and high school youth, along with their parish youth coordinators, gathered at a diocesan-wide Advent party in Ottawa on Dec. 16.

Miracles are rare, but students at St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School in Hamilton make them an annual event.

HELSINKI, Finland – In an inconspicuous red brick church in the southeast corner of downtown Helsinki, a small group of young adults gather on a Tuesday in the chapel to share in prayer, sacrament and fellowship.

It was a night filled with chatter and soft Christmas tunes, but with a very serious message about women abuse.

Youth ministry is about awakening souls and being alive in God������Ƶapp love and mercy, said Dan Dematte, the keynote speaker at last week������Ƶapp Canadian Catholic Youth Ministry Network conference.

To commemorate the end of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, the Youth Speak News team reflected on the seven corporal works of mercy and how they incorporated each work into their daily life.

Combine a little walk, a little prayer, three churches and group of young people from a variety of faiths, and you have the makings of a pretty interesting Sunday afternoon in downtown Toronto.
