Canada鱿鱼视频app oldest Catholic magazine runs its course

The Canadian Messenger of the Sacred Heart will cease to publish as it can no longer sustain itself financially.

TORONTO - Canada鱿鱼视频app oldest Catholic print publication, the Jesuits鈥� Canadian Messenger of the Sacred Heart, will go to print for the final time this month after 124 continuous years in production.

Messenger of the Sacred Heart won鈥檛 give up, and neither will its editor

Soon to turn 88, Fr. Fred Power, S.J., is still hard at work editing the Canadian Messenger of the Sacred Heart.

TORONTO - In 1966 Fr. Frederick Power, S.J., was assigned to be the editor of Canada鱿鱼视频app longest running Catholic magazine. He was 42 years old and had no idea that he鈥檇 still be at the helm 46 years later. But earlier this month, the 500th edition of Canadian Messenger of the Sacred Heart was published under Power鱿鱼视频app stewardship.

Power will turn 88 in May but says he has no plans to step down from the magazine that has been continuously published since 1891. Asked if he has worked out a succession plan for his retirement, the venerable editor smiled and said: 鈥淚鈥檓 working on it.鈥� In 1997, when he passed the 31-year tenure of a previous editor, he thought: 鈥淚 might as well keep going.鈥�
